The Play gay/transgendered category is a load of crap.

Think of the LONG list of people playing transgendered roles who got nominated and didn't win, yet the list provided doesn't list a single person who really won for playing a transgender person.

linda hunt as mentioned before only played a man, not really a trans role just a trans attitude towards casting.

Here is a list of wonderful performances in transgender roles that seems to prove that you should NOT play a transgender person if you want to win an oscar, and that you shouldn't play a MTF.

Jack Lemmon in Some like it Hot
Chris Sarandon in Dog Day Afternoon
John Lithgow in the World According to Garp
Julie Andrews in Victor Victoria
Jaye Davidson in The Crying Game
Felicity Huffman in Transamerica

All the above were nominated for acting and didn't Win.

Also it is a complete travesty that Hedwig and the Angry inch didn't get nominated for anything the year it came out. It should have at least gotten a music nomination.

Whoever put this list together is in denial about the fact that the Oscars might like gay roles but they certainly do not like transgender roles to win awards.

So the screenplay I've written about a fictitious but famous transgendered Civil War hero octogenarian immigrant from Prussia who at a young age played piano in a one man freak show until a horrible accident severely disabled him but opened up a career in the theatre and who is murdered by a jealous lover is sure Oscar gold?
