Women have been obsessed with hairstyle since, well, for-ev-vuh. As you can see, even women from the Middle Ages liked their hair all done up fancy, as documented by the Dictionnaire raisonné du mobilier français de l’époque carlovingienne à la Renaissance (Reasoned dictionary of French furniture from the Carolingian era to the Renaissance), vol. 3 by E.
