A divorce registry is a great way to help individuals going through a divorce rebuild. Some people lose half of their households. What better way to help than by replacing some of what has been lost. It alleviates some of the financial burden associated with divorce as well. Tacky, yes, but with people marrying older these days, you have a yard sale when you get married and need a shower when you split. It's only tacky when you ask for stuff. I've been married more times than I care to admit, but I've never had a wedding shower. We really did have a wedding yard sale last summer!

I'm with you Necronomic - I can see the need for people to get back on their feet after a divorce (been there, done that)and if someone feels inspired to help someone out, fine. But a gift registry? That's not only greedy but tacky in the bargain.
