Teddy Bear Toss

YouTube link

Teddy bear tosses are promotional events, typically at hockey games.  The stuffed animals are collected and donated to hospitals and other charities.  The very cheerful video above shows "the London Knights teddy bear toss on December 4th, 2009 against the Guelph Storm. The bear count was 8232."

Via Unique Daily.

There is a more comprehensive (and professionally composed) video at this link that follows a Hungarian teddy bears toss from the rink through the distribution to children.

Skip - it is the former, although a Google search will reveal many instances of "Minnesotastan" being used to compare politics in the state to that of an Asian republic.

I won't ask about Skipweasel...

AHH! I'm so excited to see this on Neatorama! I come to the site often and am from London! I went to this game last year and it is quite the sight! Very fun and cool.

Ok that is very cool. I've never seen it done but its a great idea! fun to do and a great cause. Um, I'm a bad Canadian and don't watch hockey. We should do that here (if we don't already).

Oh, Skipweasel's easy. It was given to me by a friend and neighbour in London for my habit of snapping up unconsidered trifles from skips - what you call dumpsters, I believe.

One of the few things I miss about London is the quality of the skips - people round here put such awful rubbish in them.

Skip - if you are a former dumpster diver, you would probably really appreciate Dirk Jamison's "Tao of the Dumpster." You can Google the text, but it's more fun to listen to the audio version at Ira Glass' This American Life. Search for Tao Dumpster or go to Episode 62. You can start at the beginning or skip to Act II at the 31:10 mark, where the dumpster diving story is located.
