Wow mice in the power supply! Worst I've seen is cockroaches. Live cockroaches.

Ugh - think how much of that you've been breathing in, too. Particularly the one from the mail-room.

Then again, my keyboard might be a good place to go hunting for new species of just about anything less than 1mm long.

I'm the kind of guy who uses an air compressor to blow my computer clean once in a while. Just a couple of months of dust collecting can cause quite the impressive dirt cloud when cleaning a computer.

Reminds me, I'd better clean my entire computer sometime soon, thanks!

Im going to open up my computer today just to give it a dusting because of this post. I open mine up a couple time a year, usually to add memory or a hard drive and always clean it up then.

Back in '95 when I bought my first computer I was smoking fair amount, so about five years later I was scanning a picture and noticed it was darker than I expected. After a few adjustments I finally touched the screen. It was covered in a thin layer of tar. After a liberal wiping with Windex, I understood what the doctors had been telling about cigarettes. Maybe one day I'll quit altogether. At least I don't smoke at my desk anymore.

and if the health risks are not enough, how about killing your computer with dirt?

My last computer the power supply shorted out cuz I hadn't cleaned it...

I'm ashamed to say it, but some of those computers looked very similar to what we used to have. Oh I take much better care of my comps now, but back in the day, I didn't know any better.
Plus living in a very old house with wood floors and pets... dust and hair builds up quickly. I'm surprised some of those computers ran as well as they did lol.

It never occurred to me to clean my computer's inside, let alone open it up. I'm a little nervous now!

My mother replaced her 8 year old Compaq with a Dell a few years back. She used to sit at the computer for a few hours a day smoking the whole time, my grandmother would do the same at a different time of day.

When the new computer arrived, my husband and I offered to set it up for her and transfer her old files to the new hard drive.

When we opened up the Compaq, I had to leave the room to keep from vomiting. There was at least 3/4 inch of tar lumped on top of everything plus another inch of dust.

We weren't able to salvage much. And my mom wondered why the Compaq quit working.

GROSS!!
