NASA Confirms "Significant" Water on Moon

So. Yesterday, we heard that the Pope's astronomer conceded that there may be alien life outside of planet Earth, and today NASA said that it discovered significant water on the Moon.

"The discovery opens a new chapter in our understanding of the moon," the space agency said in a written statement shortly after the briefing began.

Michael Wargo, chief lunar scientist at NASA headquarters in Washington, said the latest discovery also could unlock the mysteries of the solar system.

He listed several options as sources for the water, including solar winds, comets, giant molecular clouds or even the moon itself through some kind of internal activity. The Earth also may have a role, Wargo said.

"If the water that was formed or deposited is billions of years old, these polar cold traps could hold a key to the history and evolution of the solar system, much as an ice core sample taken on Earth reveals ancient data," NASA said in its statement.

Coicidence? I smell a conspiracy. Where's my tin foil hat? Next stop: microbes on Mars! Link

It's the old "Oh, I guess we can't stop you from doing it so we'll just give you permission to do it" play from the Vatican.

Oh, I guess we can't stop you from celebrating Mithras and the Winter Solstice, so we'll just call it Jesus' Birthday so you can keep doing that annual feast thing you do.

Oh, you just don't want to let go of this Earth orbiting the sun thing, well, I guess we can approve it then.

Oh, you just won't stop looking for Aliens. Isn't that cute. Well... if you find any... we give them permission to exist.

Now if only they'd give people permission to be gay and use condoms, we could all get on with the 21st century.

So there's water on the moon. THATS AWESOME AND I WANT TO BE THE FIRST TO DRINK SOME! Now why doesnt it have an atmosphere? My thinking is that it may have to do with the size of the moon in relation to its gravity. The moon doesnt have enough gravity to hold an atmosphere in place along with other things that are needed to produce the air we breath. The earth might just have the exact density to hold the air in and not let it dissipate nor crush it together. Sound good? Any thoughts?

Although I doubt anyone's reading it by now, but in answer to #3, cave12man, the Moon *does* have an atmosphere, it's just paper thin. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atmosphere_of_the_Moon

(it also has a sodium tail)

They're finally just preparing us for the truth, that there's been a secret space base on the other side of the moon since the 1960's.
