I agree, what's the point of this? Is it supposed to be a magic trick or a camera trick? The "making of" video seems to imply that a whole bunch of lighting, camera, and technology equipment went into this.
I thought the point of it was to mess with people's perception, and give the viewers some mental stimulation (of the 'wtf' variety). Its a neat little demonstration of that universal concept - all perception is flawed, no matter how confidently you believe what you experienced.
