Jake Lloyd: Little Orphan Ani Grown Up!

It's been ten years (ten years!) since Jake Lloyd played Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars: Episode One - The Phantom Menace. He spoke with SCI FI PI - The SCI FI Channel Australia Blog, backstage at Supanova Sydney. He has obviously had a tough time at school, but has a wry attitude on what's been - and what's ahead.

He seems like a nice enough guy, though jaded. But the fact remains... he was terrible in ep. 1. And I knew he would be considering how much his acting irritated me in "Jingle All The Way". One of the worst casting decisions Lucas ever made. The knowledge that George could have cast Haley Joel Osment instead will always pain me.

He wasn't really a bad casting decision, at least not by Star Wars standards. I love the original trilogy and there are a few parts in the new trilogy that are tolerable; episode 2 is great if you're watching it on DVD and you hit "skip" on all the love scenes.

But lets face it, it's not a franchise that's known for stellar acting. Jake Lloyd was perfectly in line with the rest of the stiff actors in SW history, and even then, he wasn't as bad as some.

The only strange casting decision in the SW world was Harrison Ford, and only because he generally wasn't as bad as all the other actors!

This kid went to my high school - years after I graduated but my brothers were still there. No one made fun of him because he was Anikin. People made fun of him because he was Emo/goth and hated everyone!
