Il Gatto

Il Gatto is a short film by Peter Atencio.  It's about the love that a woman has for her kitty cat/sensei and her quest for vengence against the man who accidentally drove over it.  It seems modeled on Quentin Tarantino's Grindhouse films.  Run time: 5 minutes.

Very funny, but I think you'll find Sergio Leone is the major influence here. That was Ennio Morricone's music playing in the soundtrack, a composer Leone used in a lot of his films. And there are a lot of shots that mimic those in Leone's films - "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly", for one.

What a strange experience. I love cats, so I'm actually a bit teary now, at the loss of the kitty. Yet my brain could also process the Leone references, and the familiar Morricone music. Then again, there's the arch silliness of it all (love the intendedly-fake kitty wielding "nunchucks"!). All in all, a great little movie and a well-spent five minutes.

Definitely more 1970's influenced, including Leone, than Tarantino. (Tarantino is great fun, but highly derivative.)

And even if it had been based on grindhouse films, the idea that the 1960's and 1970's grindhouse movement was somehow invented by Tarantino (with a time machine, I suppose) is silly. Poster needs a better DVD collection, or at least to watch some films more than 10 years old.

All that said, I really enjoyed this short film. Good find!

Bad timing for me. One of my Kittys died this morning. Never let you cat catch a mouse if you can. This one came from the apartment next door after he fumigated without telling anyone.

Hi, I'm actually the director of this short film. As some of you have said, it is very much inspired by / an homage to the Sergio Leone spaghetti western films, and not the work of Quentin Tarantino. I can see how you would be confused since there is a small amount of martial arts influence, but we chose that because it was a fun way to emphasize the teacher/pupil relationship between the girl and the cat. I didn't have Kill Bill or Grindhouse in mind when making it, but rather the climactic scene from The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. For whoever asked about the music, it is two tracks, 60 Seconds To What from the film For A Few Dollars More, and Ecstasy of Gold from TGTBATU. Thanks to those of you who liked it. This video was actually one of several I've done for a live comedy show called The Midnight Show. You can find more on Funny Or Die and YouTube.

'Course'n these days if you blow up a dude's car with he or she in it you get charged with assault and battery and destruction of property. Or I guess murder since the guy is dead now... (?)
I hope she made sure there were no witnesses first.. Hmm...
