After years of pulling stunts on museums around the world, the guerrilla artist Banksy has gone legit. Somewhat. He's pulled off his most audacious stunt yet: a secret exhibition in Bristol's City Museum and Art Gallery.
In a rare statement Banksy said: 'The people in Bristol have always been very good to me - I decided the best way to show my appreciation was by putting a bunch of old toilets and some live chicken nuggets in their museum. [...]
He added: 'This is the first show I've ever done where taxpayers' money is being used to hang my ictures up rather than scrape them off.'
The exhibition - called Banksy Versus Bristol Museum - consists of more than 100 items and will run for three weeks.
"banksy's stuff is so cool. he is such a great graffiti artist. i love all of his anti-war stuff. have you seen the video of him sneaking a painting into a museum?"
i mean srsly, either learn to paint well or join the cast of jackass with johnny knoxville. i love johnny knoxville btw and i also used to be a graffiti artist....so i guess what it is i despise about this dude is that he is famous for something he is not the inventor of, the best at, or an inovator in, while lots of other people do it well.
Are you angry at McDonalds for not inventing the hamburger?
If only I lived anywhere near Bristol... by the way, I think it's on for 3 months, not 3 weeks.
Pay careful attention to that: chicken nuggets are being heralded as art on your taxpayer money.
I suspect that Bristol will see a massive surge in vistor spending across local businesses, hotels and taxis. I bet this exhibition brings in much more than it costs.
As far as frauds for my taxes, I quite like a bit of juvenile humour for my money thanks, that's exactly what I want it spent on.
I mean look at Mytake and c0ldfish, they're all angry and pissy about it, they were oblivious to it and now they will probably deny that.
Banksy art has established financial worth.
Banksy has social worth, otherwise we wouldn't be talking about him. He has social currency.
all you are saying is you don't like him, but then - I don't like Hannah Montana. My preference there matters not, because I am not the audience for it.
Hanhah Montana has value to her audience. Just because I am 'ME' does not mean my preferences override everyone esles. Just because I am 'right' for me, does not mean everyone else's appreciation of H. Montana is 'wrong'
So does swine flu.
It's aesthetically pleasing it's socially provocative, and as a rarer point in today's artistic environment, most of the times it doesn't actively repel the viewer. So slag off haters.
