Update 5/17/09 - The answer is: A Geyser Tube, used for the Coke and Mentos geyser experiment, to see it in action check out the video at the link. Congrats to Jared who got it right out of the gate!

I had a tube thing that looked similar to this - it was for growing sprouts - bean sprouts, alfalfa sprouts, etc.

It's a tube for when you mix Coke and Mentos. You screw the tube onto a bottle of Coke, then, while the pin's still in, put in some Mentos. Then you pull out the pin, dropping the Mentos into the soda. The tube helps increase the height of what's going out due to the confined space.

I should know, I have one of these!

It almost looks like a fire piston but those are generally wood and thinner. I wonder what that key is for??
