Trying to Save the World by Driving to Mongolia

This July, I will be driving from London to Mongolia, in a piece of #### car, all in the name of charity.  I'm taking part in the Mongol Rally.  It is, in fact, as ridiculous as it sounds.

What: The Mongol Rally is an annual charity race across Eurasia where 500 cars traverse 1/3 of the world in 1-liter engine vehicles and, with a lot of luck, make it all the way to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. There’s no route and no help, but a whole lot of road and good deeds along the way.

Come on, that's great that its for a charity, but does it have to be using long distance driving? Not trying to be a buzzkill, but in our economy/ climate crisis, it's terrible how your using your car like that. I'm only in high school, but even I know not to do that.. -sad face/ maybe ride a bike all the way? Hahah..

I did this in 2006, it was excellent fun, though pretty hard going at times! Which route are you doing?

My flickr set of the pictures is here...

I reckon a car with a 1-liter engine actually gets superb fuel economy, maybe even better than a prius! For instance the thirstiness of the Daihatsu Cuore, a car which slots nicely into the rally rules, is effectively demonstrated here: http://adsoftheworld.com/media/ambient/daihatsu_cuore_a_lot_less_thirsty?size=_original
