This is a pretty good hobby. You get to stand around in a nice environment drinking beers and BSing with your buddies while the bird does all the work. That's almost a perfect hobby.
If they are going to turn this into a GAME, though, that bird is going to have to kill something. Grab a fish out of the water. Kill a small animal like a gopher or rabbit, fight with other birds in the air, maybe even grab a small deer (We're gonna need a bigger bird)
Very cool and informative. I never knew birds look aroud so much when they're gliding. But then again, I sure would! Amazing dives, great idea, and I even have no problem with the length of the video.
Mis C: I did notice the handler parked himself on a fairly unique crossroads, and maybe Mr. Hawk uses cues like that to find him.
I've already seen hawks impressive diving in a show, but this video gives an amazing perspective to it. Neat!
Miss C., I believe hawk can see 8 times better than humans. I guess that would be enough to find the guy next to the blue van, and I think the rodent hiding next to the front bumper as well!
Don't ask me why, but my first thought was, wow, I thought it would be a smoother video. I've been on plenty of airplanes so I know there's turbulance and all that. So it's funny, that in my mind, when I imagine myself flying - it's smooth- swoosh, not da-da-da-da-da. Don't look at me like that! I know I'm weird! lol
Moon: Try http://www.pbs.org/wnet/nature/episodes/raptor-force/video-falcon-cam/1162/ for a raptor strike. Wish they had used an image-stabilized camera, though. (Must be available, even my $200 Canon has it.)
