Rent-A-Hookah

Hands down this is a truly filthy habit and a great way to spread disease. And we thought salmonella was dangerous. How about bidis, clove smokes, indian cigars, and tobacco all together in the hookah with the combined lung diseases of the bird flu and new tuberculosis combined with the spittle of total strangers! Just a delightful toxic mix all of which is avoidable by not smoking and constricting one's arterial system and inviting strokes and irreversible heart disease.

oh, real hookas aren't cheap....several middle eastern restaurants around here rent them, they are quite nice after a meal. try it, you may like it.

my friend had a hookah, and the nice ones do cost a fair amount of money, so it seems reasonable to rent one especially if you don't smoke it that often, plus it comes with tobacco and coals(both of which cost cost less than a couple of bucks per bowl but w/e). as for smoking illegal substances, we tried that in his hookah, but its difficult to pull off. first of all, all the tobacco is in molasses, and a lot of the smoke comes from that molasses, which is what gives the flavor. So in order to smoke anything else in it, you need something thats close to the same consistency, and even then, i would much prefer a pipe or water pipe.

Just make yer own, a bong and a length of hose (few meters in length) and some plumbers/electricians tape.

@alf: the smoke does not come from the molasses, it comes from the glycerin (a sugar alcohol) and most tobaccos don't even use molasses anymore...

oh plus there are different kinds of laws dealing with selling tobacco, even though he's renting the hookah, there's still tobacco involved

I think part of the lure of renting instead of buying one is the college demographic there. If you want to smoke a hookah very often and you're a regular mature adult with a house and a family and such, yeah, you'd probably money ahead to buy one outright. If you've got a hookah in your dining room or on the coffee table in the den, it's your house and your own business. But for college kids, many are still living under the scrutiny of the parents and other authorities like Dorm officials and such. They might want to use a hookah from time to time for get togethers or just to try it out of curiosity, but don't want to buy one and have to worry about explaining it to Mom and Dad or the RA when it's sitting out in their room. Even if you are genuinely only using it to smoke tobacco, you still don't want to try and convince your Mother of that when she sees it in the room she's paying room and board for. I think the rental appeal is in that it's a way to keep the hookah private.

hookah is a great way to socialize, its not that bad and its better than cigarretes. i have one, it cost 50. its very cool to get together with some friends, smok, and talk. none of us blaze so its a good substitute.
