650 Million Years in About A Minute

Our fight against global warming is futile. Nature is going to equalize everything in the end.

Here is a cool animation about plate techtonics before and after our time.

From the Upcoming ueue, submitted by Christophe.

I don't believe it. They make it look like the land is floating on the water like a boat. You know, under the water is more land; the continents don't stop at the beach. If the water level was about 200 feet lower, you would be able to walk almost anywhere in the world.

Tectonic plates always move and crash into each other which is how mountains are formed. As of right now the Americas is moving away from Europe and Africa at a rate of about 2cm per year. Eventually we will collide into Russia and China. This video only predicts how the plates will move if they continue at the rate they currently are.

All the land IS pretty much floating on water. Under even the seabed, there is the mantle, which is more or less a liquid. The tectonic plated "float" on this layer and are able move / collide with each other... 8th grade science ftw

this video shows the earth reversing!?

Um... isn't the earth expanding?

Gore lives in his little own world while the rest of the world has some brains and does actual research. Well a lot of the world lives in Gores little fantasy as well.

@Daz
I do not know how some people could believe the expanding Earth theory. Where does all of the extra material come from? The earth is not becoming hollow over the years. If it was then it would have stopped expanding billions of years ago as pressure in the mantle would have dropped and no volcano would have went off and tectonic plates would have stopped moving.

@Josh
This idea doesn't mean the earth is hollowing.

Although it WOULD be cool if was like "journey to the center" of the earth down there... but it's not

Stuff expands with heat, yeah?
The stuff at the center of the earth gets super heated by earth's own gravity (trying to cram it into a small space at the center), it expands and then rises to the top, some of it coming out of the earth's seams, the rest pooling beneath, building pressure and pushing things apart. The stuff that's seeping out cools and becomes a new part of the crust, increasing the size of the earth. Gravity and sheer weight of the crust not allowing it to just spurt off.
eventually it will equalize: gravity/pressure/heat/convection/expansion...
There's no extra material, it's all already here; it's just super-hot, but slowly cooling.

At one point when the earth was all molten, there were no seas at all. When water was finally made by the slamming together of atoms in the planet's core it condensed and made rain, this rain cooled the earth, and so cooled all the stuff coming out of it, in turn making more water. This cooling is continuing even now.
The equalization point? Larger, cooler, less volcanic earth, long time away.
(This explanation is, of course, a MAJOR simplification of the process...)
That's the way I understand it: but I'm no astrophysicist/geologist.
Those ripples in the sea floor that follow the shape of the land seem pretty conclusive to me. The age of the sea floor... well if that's true... it's pretty convincing.

Oh for god's sake. Enough of this expanding Earth theory. It is FALSE. Anyone who might buy into it is fail. Geology and techtonics are fields of science which are fact, not theory. People have devoted their lives for hundreds of years to the study of the Earth and to try and negate their work is nothing short of insulting. THE EARTH IS NOT EXPANDING.

I thought the expanding theory was abloished like 70 years ago cause they found out about tectonic plates which would give a answer to the same animal fossils being in africa and america when they are so far apart.

The earth is 6000 years old, and if you have to have faith that the millions of years theory is correct, its a theory and therefore since you believe it that is your faith and thus your religion! the same as my belief that the earth is 6000 years old. Both of our beliefs are religious. you may think that you are right, but that doesn't make it so, same for me. But think about this where does that leave you in the end. If you are right you and I go to the same place, but if you are wrong?
I think there is too much beauty in this world to leave it to chance. I don't care what you believe and you can think whatever you want, but since you are sharing your beliefs I thought I would share mine.
Peace

I do not agree or believe the bible but for a defensive purpose on the bible I would have to say it can go another way. In the bible you are told how earth is in the perspective of God. Because of this you do not know how long a year is for this god. It could be a 100 million years to 1 earth year. So in all the earth can be 4.54 billion earth years old but in the terms of the gods year it could be only a few thousand or 6000 from what you said.

The Earth is expanding. Biogeography proves that California and Asia were connected aproximately 225 million years ago. My favorite theory is that the Earth operates as a gravity/fusion core. The material it is fusing together would be dark matter, which consists of subatomic particles like mesons, quarks, leptons, etc. Enegry and gravity combine to create elements out of the subatomic particles and the Earth then expands.
