I like coffee - but not to the point that I need to grind my own roasted coffee beans (those Senseo coffee pods are just fine, thank you very much!) and certainly not to the point that I'd want to make my own coffee roaster! Not that I can anyhow ...

my coffee snob of a father uses a heat gun (generally used for paint stripping), a broken bench press to keep the heat gun up, a bread maker with a broken element to stir the beans and a heat probe.
it's better than the popcorn machine method.
Also, you don't need to build your own roaster, you can just use the air popcorn popper method:
