UPS Package Signed by "Terrorist"

Blbar Singh, a Sikh man in Bakersfield, California, was looking up a package that he sent to his son's home on the UPS website. He was surprised to see that the delivery was signed by "terrorist":

Anant Singh, Blbar’s son said, “All of my community who wears a turban and belongs to the Sikh faith are not terrorists. We are a peace-loving people and are part of the community.”

Teg Sidhu, Singh’s friend, said, “Most people may not understand the difference between Sikhs and Muslims, but at least they don’t label every turban-wearing person a terrorist.”

UPS is looking into the matter: Link - Thanks Tiff!

I agree with you Larry, the Sikhs that I have interacted with in the U.S. have been all professional and nice people. They are a thousand more productive than native Americans that have lived in the U.S. for generations and living on social assistance or acts of crime. It is unfortunate they bear the brunt of racist ingorants simply because of their head wear.

wow that friend of his just implied the Muslims were terrorists. How hypocritical... ffs cant people understand that NONE of them are terrorists??!

Agreeing with anon.

People need to stand up against any statement that implies that Muslims are terrorists. Colin Powell was right... the correct answer to the "Obama is a Muslim" label that people were trying to give him should have been "So what if he is?"

And if the guy's friend is implying that no Sikhs are terrorists, then all you need to google are the words 'Air', 'India', and 'Bombing'.

This is not surprising for central california (with Bakersfield as the crown jewel), as they can be closed-minded. This is the same place cited in the infamous "laughing 9/11 arab convenience store clerks" myth:

Don't just fire the UPS carrier, try to educate them. Ignorance is unacceptable and aggression on top of it is just a bad combination.
Abusive comment hidden. (Show it anyway.)
Big deal. Next the Pitchfork and Torch crowd will want to fire someone for asking a fat girl when's she due. Shit happens - get a thicker skin and deal with it.
Abusive comment hidden. (Show it anyway.)
Umm, what exactly does this case have to do with 'growing a thicker skin,' PC gone amok, or any other nonsense? This is a case of a huge global organization with gross employee misconduct. Labelling customers as "terrorists" is hardly something to merrilly laugh about, anymore than using a derogatory term for any other social or ethnic group.

You don't expect any professional business to tolerate such stupdity. Period.

And for those still crying that people should get over this and think it's "harmless," how would you feel being labeled a term that is associated with those who killed over 3000 Americans on 9-11. Not so funny now is it?
Abusive comment hidden. (Show it anyway.)
Yes vonskippy, I would want that person to be fired if they said that to a customer while on the job, as this UPS employee did. Its called professionalism, grow up and deal with it.
Abusive comment hidden. (Show it anyway.)
To quote Forrest Gump: "Stupid is as stupid does" I bet it wasn't the "regular" UPS driver, after all they have a pretty sweet gig and the belong to one of the few unions in this country that still have some power. More like the "maroon" vonskippy, guess what mein fhuer, it's a new day in America and you EUROcentric narrow world view fools don't get to try and divide us like you have for the last eight years: deal with it, bubba!

So this guy is really stupid because he did not intercept a package signed by "terrorist", since this is the way terrorists sign their packages?

Sounds rather naive or I don't get it.

My only question: Does this story belong here ? What is Neat about it ? More of this stuff will send me away - I get enough of this crap from the regular "liberal" press/sites. Keep it light & apolitical please

Rumi & Osama
StAugustine & Urban II
Walt Whitman & Dick Cheney
Beethoven & Hitler

The Muslims are getting it in the neck at the moment, and It'll be some other group in 20 years then another 100 years etc, we're all dicks. It's an obvious point, but then I'm pretty simple minded. Also, I used to have things delivered to me using the name "Linzee Splish" I'm just saying.

This is a disgrace. Has it occurred to anyone to look up the definition of terrorist and compare it to the definition of Sikh? Maybe we could learn something useful.

Here, I'll make it easy for you all:

You must be new here Barry. There's been hundreds before you that have complained incessantly about keeping politics out of neatorama (which basically means, keep the "liberal garbage/conservative bashing" subjects out, leave all others in lol).

If you or others don't like it here, then don't visit, simple as that.

@ Barry
It doesn't matter to people who know the difference between a Sikh and a Muslim or a Common Man and a Terrorist.. But its good that the article has been posted, kinda like enlightening the people who can't make out the difference..

@Geekazoid: Did somebody say it was liberal? Or did you mean political? I would say it isn't. It's cultural maybe, and while the definition of "neat" is not going to find consensus around here, the incident is certainly interesting.

I think the people that object to disturbing or political items on neatorama really just want stuff that cannot, in any way, complicate their lives. So kittens and gadgets and knitted guitars are in; anything that shows the messy state of our world or humans is out. If that's some people's preference, okay I guess, but what's always confused me is why these people think they have a vote.

I'm sorry but I have 6 news sites in my browser at ALL times. I do not want to get "liberal news" here. I am very well informed & well read, this article was not neat in any way. I've been called many things in the past and will be in the future - I do not think that insults at me are "neat" or even "news" worthy, let alone anyone else. FLAME on ...

And Barry to the rescue to inject immediately moot evidence of a nonissue.

Can't we all just do meta-posts that describe the kind of role-playing contributions we will be making to fulfill the requirements of our implicit personas?

I'll start: Ostensible voice of reason interjected with subtextual intent to make fun of trolly vitriolic Barry types.

Hilarious nonsense.

Some mouth breather saw some guy in a beard and turban and saw terrorist.

The story here is the way that a lot of people see the world.

But when you have Christianity and Islam espousign their "religion of peace" credentials, I( find Sihkism refreshingly in your face on all things martial.

All Sihk men go armed at all times, it is one of the 5 Ks.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Five_Ks

I would suggest a 6th K.

Kicking a UPS employees arse.
