The Most Expensive Accidents in History

This list of the most expensive accidents in history starts out with the sinking of the Titanic at #10. If you think a bit, you can probably guess some of the entries before you check out the rest. Dollar amounts are expressed in current values. Wars and natural disasters are not included, and loss of life is not factored in the expense. Link -via Dark Roasted Blend

Firstly (Is that a word?), this is another excellent article.

Secondly, in some of the accidents, the cost of lost lives *was* included in the expenses. Most notably in the Metrolink disaster. Since none of the lawsuits have settled, the stated amount is only an estimate.

I'm sure the Titanic figure would be a lot higher than $150 million if you factored in lost cargo, lost personal property, investigations (cf. the Chernobyl entry), and lawsuits (cf. the Metrolink entry). Obviously the list isn't meant to be scientific, but the inconsistency is pretty glaring.
