Zyg Gregorek, 65, is the first recreational fisherman anywhere to catch all 27 species in the three so-called "royal slams" set by the International Game Fish Association (IGFA) – hooking nine species of shark, including the great white, ten of billfish and eight of tuna.
Gregorek has traveled the world and fished for many years to achieve the title.
Rob Kramer, president of Florida-based IGFA, described Mr Gregorek's achievement as "totally unique". He said: "To achieve one royal slam is impressive but to get all three is unheard of. He is the first and maybe the last. These awards are considered the big one – the Holy Grail. They are spectacular – travelling to exotic places and chasing a specific species of fish."
Mr Kramer stressed: "It is not about luck – you have to research, to know exactly where to go and when. Zyg is, by definition, the world's greatest fisherman."

So many endangered species (esp. sharks, e.g.), so many people starving to death, energy crisis, pollution... and still some rich braindeads travel the planet to kill animals for fun.
Mr. Zyg Gregorek is in my opinion one of the world's greatest idiots.
Yes, you have the fun, No, the fish is not wasted. For example, all the Mediterranean big game fishing contests in France were giving the sales benefits to the cancer fighting charities.
I remember the days when we would cut a tuna, and simply BBQ it + thyme/rosemary/oregano + olive oil and give it around to the happy neighbours.. Good times....
On a darker note, it's been years we haven't caught anything : pollution, yes, but especially agressive overfishing killed all the big tunas. In the Mediterranean northern fleets are now fishing in Lybia's waters, in tuna's reproduction/spawning areas. Industrial fishing has killed everything.
Zyg is going to hold his record for a long time, unfortunately.
Try Hunting Politicians, there seems no end to their numbners.
Would that THEY went the way of the passenger pigeon
but i would've used a snorkel and spear
It is often these anglers that do more for the fight to save the oceans and protect the fish than the commercial fishermen. I am sure that the number of fish released during the years of chasing this achievement far outweigh the number kept, and this is the real achievement.
