"Clockpunk" Ring

Acanthusleaf Design Studio created this ring based on a Diana Scarisbrick's book Historic Rings. In a closed position, it looks just like any other ring, but then you can "open" it up to look like a celestial globe:

This should probably be described as clockpunk because the original is early 17thC, but it has that totally industrial 19thC look, especially when closed. The original was gold, of course, but I've made this prototype in brass, riveted with silver, because that's what I had in convenient sizes of sheet and wire. We cannot wait around for sheet metal when obsessed, now can we?

Wow - my ring is on Neatorama!

This was the prototype, and I just met with a manufacturer yesterday to be able to make more than one of these per week. I will have them in gold and silver, and likely white gold as well. I have to make a new master in each ring size for the mfr to take molds of - these aren't sizeable like regular rings. That means that I will have certain sizes available before others. Please email me if you're interested: laurie@medievaljeweler.com. This ring is not yet up on my website.

And CheeseDuck - when your finger is through the ring, it can't open. It can shift around a tad, but it can only open when off your finger. I can't stop fiddling with it. Wish I'd had this when I had to go to boring meetings. :-)

Thanks for the compliments, folks! I'm so encouraged!
