The Shoe House and Other Buildings That Look Like Things

You're looking at the Shoe House in Hellam, Pennsylvania. It was an actual guesthouse (3 bedroom, 2 baths, a kitchen and a living room ... no word about shoe closet) of a local shoe magnate, Mahlon N. Haines. After his death, it was an ice cream parlor for a while, and now it is a museum.

Part of a neat article of the 9 buildings shaped like things at DVICE: Link

my brother and i took a roadtrip around pennsylvania to wacky tourist-y things a couple summers ago.. this was our last stop. sadly, it was closed down for repairs... regardless, it's awesome. and not far from my home!

Same here, Samantha...The Haines Shoe House is only about 8 miles west on Rt. 30 from my house.

Impressive picture! I`ve seen many absurd ideas in my life though I`m a realtor in Toronto but this is something really outstanding. What a disappointing fact that the architecture nowadays focusus mainly to be very practical and leaving behind the main factor why it is under term art. I would definitely visit the place, thank you for your suggestion!
