AFAIK the electric current would not gain ground because they are in a plastic tub. Additionally, the cord seems to be grounded version, so they would probably just burn a fuse. It's totally different from doing the same thing in a metallic or otherwise grounded situation.
So... it's just fancy looking but maybe not so deadly after all.
It's amazing that on a site where you see staged or Photoshopped pictures constantly, people seeing stuff like this instantly believe it. Your lives on the Internet will be easier is you always assume it's a joke first.
Sure, its a joke. BUT, they better had made sure that the end of that extension cord was a LONG way from any outlets, or some unsuspecting person could've walked by and assumed that it had come unplugged accidently...
Playing with electricity is dangerous. What these guys are doing (if for real) is really seriously dangerous. But if the ground on this line is working the phase would arc to it and the first breaker (if working) would burn or trip. If there was no working ground it would short to the neutral and the first breaker (if working) would burn or trip. If the first breaker (5-10 Amps normally; needing about 50 Amps peak for a burner to burn, less for a tripper and a lot less for an FI to switch) however does not work, there is the next breaker in the cirquit which could be a 40 Amps one. If you're near that construction it would probably arc to you. Resulting in burned balls or probably death...
I'm so stunned by this -- I feel as though, if I keep looking at this picture for a few more seconds, I'll actually be able to see these people turn into Crispy Critters before my very eyes.
If it's Photoshopped, it's effective! If it's for real, are these people still alive?
nobody offers the possibility that everything is real, EXCEPT the final connection isn't made to the wall outlet. So quickly people scream "photoshopped!", when there could be a much simpler explanation -- they staged the pic as a joke and didn't plug the cord in.
"pasty english glow" or not, they aren't Brits; wrong kind of outlet as far as I can tell.
Assuming they aren't on holiday somewhere I guess. Actually, yes that's a far more likely situation. Bad tan lines on the guy on the left, a selection of different local beers that I don't recognise, the flip flops holding the extension cord. This just has to be Brits abroad. Tenerife is my guess.

There was a great deal of Krombacher being consumed at the Northwoods-LAN 2007.

Don't play with electricity boys...
