Rivera was composed while appearing before cameras and judges throughout the competition. But once backstage, she had to strip off her clothes and apply ice bags to her face and body, which swelled and broke out in hives twice.
"We thought at first it was an allergic reaction, or maybe nerves," Rosario said. "But the second time, we knew it couldn't have been a coincidence."
Rivera's clothing and makeup later tested positive for pepper spray.
Rivera was the favorite going into the competition. She was also Miss World Caribbean in 2005. Now she will represent Puerto Rico in the Miss Universe pageant. Link -via Arbroath

Let me assure you that the rules state that a contestant must be no older than 27 for the Miss Universe Pageant
In Puerto Rico, she probably has to be younger so as not to be disqualified.
This winner was also 2nd runner up in the Miss World contest a couple of years ago - so that is why some of the other contestants reacted so badly
My nanny was in a hairdresser school when she was 15. Same sh*t. Can't women get all along?
Sorry about the * words.
And afterwards, I really needed to pee.
...I think we all know where this headed...
Needless to say, I was a whimpering wreck for more than an hour. And that was AFTER washing my hands thoroughly with dish soap before heading to the head. What had come into contact with my, erm, sensitive flesh was watered-down compared to the 200,000 Scovilles that could have wound up scorching the Land Down Under.
Just REMEMBERING it makes tears leak from my eyes...
So, having that as a frame of reference, I can not even IMAGINE the absolute agony this poor lady was experiencing! I hope they find the dogs that did such a cruel act, and give them a, ahem, "taste" of their own medicine...
