Christmas Island red crabs (Gecarcoidea natalis) only exist on that one tropical island in the Indian Ocean. They must spawn on the shore because their larva grow in water. So every October or November, they swarm towards the sea, over 100 million of them! The crabs have been endangered several times by man-made disturbances in the balance of species on the island. Any species with 100 million members is hardly "endangered."

When there's a 100 million of this swarming the road, I say it's time to nuke the place.
