Saw similar idea in Gran Canaria recently - but they guy painted a black sun-proof paint every day over the same design on his body. Each night he washed it off to go out.
After several weeks sunbathing he had then had a tattoo in reverse i.e. a pale area amongst dark skin.
He had chosen a design like the baby Alien from the film stretched across his torso and round his neck.
Eye-catching and creepy !!

I agree with Alexia and Kyle. The tan "tattoo" does look a bit off from what the cut of the robe looks like. :o

This is such a bad idea on so many levels. I actually have permanent tan lines on my back from a bad (accidental) burn a few years ago.

Tan lines aren't always temporary.

Here's what I think is happening in the photos...

The garment itself is just an idea. Check out her website - she has a number of creative ideas, most of which aren't practical.

She made the garment on the left and either tried it and realized that it was too difficult to really pull off. The picture on the left is of her naked and untanned with the floral pattern Photoshopped onto it.

A mesh underlayer would help the stencil keep its shape. However, I'm writing to say this kind of startled me when I saw it at first. It reminds me of a description or photograph I saw of a woman who survived the bombing of Hiroshima or Nagasaki. The flash from the blast gave her "sunburn," but she was wearing a floral-print kimono and its design was burned onto her skin. Maybe this idea might enjoy some popularity where Ms. Wang lives; but I doubt it would fly in Japan.

She is in Taiwan. Taiwan has its own problems.

did anyone ever hear of "spray tan"?

this is givin me ideas. maybe shading in around an outline, using different factors of sunblock, covering the lighter areas with a heavier lotion, possibly without the T-Shirt. this may help prevent bad burns??

this is photoshopped. you can tell bc the design is flipped inside out onto her body. it was a nice try tho..
