The Real Moe

Meet Rich Hall [wiki], a comedian and writer who was the inspiration for Moe Szyslak, the barman from The Simpsons:

He said he has always thought the cartoon landlord - who is obsessed with Homer's wife Marge - was rather like him.

"I suspected that Moe was based on me because I used to write with George Meyer back when he was one of the original writers on the show," he said. "Matt Groening was a fan of my stuff. Other people said: "You look and sound just like Moe".

"Then Matt confirmed it. It's an honour, once you get over the shock of seeing yourself as a horrible, yellow caricature."

Wow, always thought he was the real life Moe - never imagined he was actually the inspiration though - rather assumed it was just a co-incidence like Mr Burns and Phillip Ruddock (current Australian Attorney General).

Wow, what a horrible description of Moe's character

He's a bartender! and where does this obsession idea come from?

For having a character created as your likeness you'd figure you'd know a little more about it.

Mo is a bartender (and I suppose bar owner, but I don't think he rents anything out).

Here at least, the owner of the pub is the landlord (even if they don't rent out rooms). Anyhoo I love Rich Hall. He's hilarious on QI, he can never say anything clever like the other contestants so he usually makes stuff up!
