Flickr user agilitynut took this fantastic photo of an old McDonald's sign, from the times where they still had "Speedee" as a mascot! Link [Flickr] | The sign at night [Flickr] - via Super Punch
Apparently, Speedee is still a mascot. My wife and I ate a the McD's inside Wal-Mart while waiting for our car to be worked on, and there is a painting of him on the wall.

Actually, here in SoCal, the mascot is making a come back. McD is starting to build more store with the old arch and mascot all over SoCal here.

This is how I remember McDonald's from my childhood. We didn't EAT there, but I recall seeing the building in Knoxville a lot.

I recall the sign said "over a million sold." Must've been around the time of the Civil War....

I think that would be for that particular branch for "over a million sold". They've modelled the Mcdonalds in the Metrotown Mall here old-fashionedish / modern with speedee. Never knew he had any significance though lol.

There's one on Memorial Parkway SW here in Huntsville, AL. Just like that. We never really think anything of it.

I remember when they still used to count the burgers sold, and change the signs accordingly. Does that make me old?

The Walking Man McD's in South Huntsville is actually the very first in the country to have indoor seating. Its a great landmark, check it out sometime!
