Bible Saved Soldier's Life in Iraq

A while ago, Neatorama had a story about an iPod that saved a soldier's life in Iraq when it caught an insurgent's bullet.

Here's another one: this time, a Bible in a soldier's pocket helped save his life by stopping a bullet near his heart.

First off, that iPod didn't save anyone's life. The bullet didn't even penetrate the soldier's armor.

Second, this seems very fishy. Wearing anything under your body armor is uncomfortable, especially something with sharp corners. That bible is thick enough that I wonder if he could have been wearing his armor correctly. Also, if the article is correct, all the bible did was catch the bullet as it came out of his body. Just like the iPod, it didn't do anything except make the story newsworthy.

From TFA ""(The Bible) definitely prevented more serious injury, because if it wouldn't have been there, it would have ricocheted off my bullet-proof plate and more than likely would have gone back into my chest, causing more damage," Schweigart said."

But he also thought prayers helped him. So there ya go.

Yeah, prayers surely work. Well, you still get hit (prayer doesn't seem to be able to influence that) but then miraculously, on the the bullet is IN the body then prayers can work all their magic!

Hallelujah!

Show me the statistics on the number of bible carrying soldiers that were shot and died. Then if that number is ZERO, I'll be impressed. Until then, it's nothing more impressive then a mere statistical anomaly (ya know, the old hundred monkeys/Shakespeare thingy).

Why do soldiers have to dig through local landfills for pieces of scrap Bibles and compromised ballistic glass to up-armor our vehicles?

One of my grandfathers was a Paratrooper in WW2. One of his friends kept a bullet with his name written on it on the belief that if he possessed said bullet, no body could fire it at him. While searching a house, a large, heavy Bible with re-enforced steel corners fell off a shelf and hit the percussion cap of the bullet causing it to go off and kill him. If you believe that, then you'll believe this Bible story.

The bullit probably erased the "Thou shall not kill"-passage in the bible? Appearently the owner didn't have see any conflict in that sentence and being a soldier.
