Man Eats Socks to Avoid Breathalyzer

Police in Walkerton, Ontario had a surprising encounter with a suspected drunk driver on the holiday weekend when he refused to take a breath test.

A 19-year-old man was sitting in his car with the lights off on a country road in the early hours of the morning and when an officer tried to administer a breath analysis, the suspect drank the fluid from his contact lens case and ate one of his contact lenses. He then attempted to eat portions of his shirt and socks.

When officers tried to remove his clothing, a scuffle broke out and the suspect was subdued with pepper spray. When placed in a holding cell, he put his head in the toilet and refused to provide a breath sample.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 9; his name has not been released.

I love how he probably figured if he eat his contact, sock, car freshener, etc. right in front of the cop and managed to pass the test, he could just drive home a free man.

Nice near verbatim copy of the original Globe and Mail story... Plus, while removing certain words and altering the text in an attempt to limit the plagiarism, you've removed important contextual information which has only succeeded in making your version confusing.

The picture is priceless!

Several misc point:

- Drinking alcohol impairs your judgment. Would he really be eating a sock if he was not drunk?
- When you're too drunk to drive, don't sit in your car in the driver seat. This makes you a drunk driver, even if you are not driving. You probably should not sit in a car at all.
- It's Canada, maybe refusing the test has different consequences as our.
- Plagiarism? Dylan? Really? I thought it was "summarizing", my bad.

PLAGIARISM:

"Plagiarism (from Latin plagiare "to kidnap") is the practice of claiming, or implying, original authorship or incorporating material from someone else's written or creative work, in whole or in part, into one's own without adequate acknowledgement."

(SOURCE: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plagarism)

"the unauthorized use or close imitation of the language and thoughts of another author and the representation of them as one's own original work."

(SOURCE: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/plagiarism)

Now. Look at what was posted. See how there's a nice "Link" at the end of the story? That is called a SOURCE. The source is being acknowledged RIGHT THERE. Therefore it is NOT plagiarism. It's just not in the poster's own words. Sorry.

Fact.

In my experience, anything told in a chronological order will seem like copying.

Thanks for the pic, Peter! That's an unrelated incident (the guy's trying to eat his underwear). And apparently, the effort instantly aged him, as he didn't look anywhere close to 18!

It seems to me, unless you are very knowledgeable in the law, you have almost no chance of out foxing a cop when it comes to matters like DUI's and car searches.

Of course everyone hears about the "guy" who gets away with it, but everyone I know who try to keep the cops from searching his/her car or refuses a breathe test always ends up just making matters worse.
