From the website:
A young disabled man who receives care for his life-limiting illness at a hospice run by a nun spoke yesterday of his decision to use a prostitute to experience sex before he dies.
Sister Frances Dominica gave her support to 22-year-old Nick Wallis, who was born with Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Sufferers usually die by their thirties.
Mr Wallis told staff at the Douglas House hospice in Oxford that he wanted to experience sexual intercourse. He explained that he had hoped to form an intimate and loving relationship with a woman, but his disability had acted as a barrier.
He told The Daily Telegraph: "It was a decision two years in the making and I discussed it with my carers and my parents. Telling my mother and father was the hardest part, but in the end they gave me their support.

I guess at the Daily Telegraph they look at the newswire and say, "hmmmm, war in Iraq, earthquake here, tsunami there, wait! Stop the presses! Man wants to have sex!"
As for using a prostitute, I guess he may as well enjoy the experience and use a professional. Doesn't have to worry much about catching anything if he's dying already.
What a stupid and ignorant comment.
I hope this young man and his prostitute shoo the news photographer out from under the sheets first.
this is interesting and if this offends you... why? how does this in any way affect you?
If it were me, I'd probably wish for some really good cheesecake or a pony or something.
Where have I seen this before? Oh yeah that weird ass movie "the Theory of Flight" made in 1998 about a girl with a fatal motor neural disease that wanted to get laid before she died.

There's something seriously wrong with people who chime in with comments demeaning this poor kid, or even to think the story isn't worthy of a moment's contemplation.
Thanks for posting it, Neatorama. It may not be "Neat" but sometimes it's worth finding out about a story that gives you pause for thought and humbles you.
I hope he gets more than just the one experience.
Why? Because I strongly feel it's the right thing to do, and I know that if I rush into such things I'll not only hurt myself emotionally, but I'll also hurt the woman involved by objectifying her (as a sex object or a milestone in life; take your pick). If I'm meant to be married, then so be it. If I'm not? Well... I suppose I can live with that.
People need to realize that life is it's own reward, and that life isn't about the pursuit of happiness, but rather the pursuit of virtue (no matter the pain involved). The pursuit of virtue may leave us sad, depressed, or in pain about half the time, but in the end it's a much more satisfying way to live; it strengthens and empowers us and inspires others.
Lastly, people need to remember that death isn't the end. It's merely a transition to another existence. I've personally seen and felt too much evidence to believe otherwise. And if you're properly prepared, that next existence is a far greater one than this, and filled with naught but physical and mental perfection.
I'll have to side with Vean on this: it may be an unfortunate state of affairs, but sex isn't a human right. If I was in that young man's position, I would be looking to God, not a woman. It staggers the mind that a nun would support him in this decision. Prostitution is a horrible, horrible thing. Putting aside the fact that it's a sin, it *inevitably* devalues, devours and destroys women emotionally (if not physically as well).
I feel for the guy, I really do (especially given my own complete lack of a sex history), but there is so much more to life than sex. No matter what happens, I pray that God's will for him be done and that he finds peace.
I wouldn't say sex is overratted, I'd just say the experience of losing your virginity is.
If you went to play tennis for the first time, I imagine you would spend more time chasing balls than hitting them. Sex is kind of like that.
Without the ball hitting, of course. That would hurt.
Robert Aronson, go push your bible somewhere else. We don’t need people like you to come on here to preach about religion. You’re just as ignorant as Vean for agreeing that sex isn’t a human right.
And please, if you’d like to argue about that don’t bring religion into it.
That's called censorship.
Freedom of speech means you are going to be exposed to ideas you don't like.
When I start seeing the Jebus stuff, I just skip the post.
I agree with Becki and all the others that aren't virtually damning the poor kid.
I read an article about a 15 year old boy in Australia who did the same. I was wondering what they would have done if it was a 15 year old girl requesting this, would the hospital be as open minded?
#lol :)
I doubt you have any problem with paying women to be maids. In that case, women are being "used and paid for like objects". In fact, maids are more like objects than prostitutes. Maids are expected to be subservient to the person who pays them, yet prostitutes can set their own times, terms, and taboos.
Truthfully, you most likely only believe that prostitution is wrong because of your religious upbringing. Once you realize that sex is a basic, primal instinct, and not a God-given baby-making machine, you will naturally see that killing a man's temporary urge for sex is not wrong.
If God is all-powerful, and all-knowing, then when he created Lucifer, God knew that he would betray God and be cast from Heaven. He also knew that Satan would give the apple to Eve, who would give it to Adam. So, while he was creating Lucifer, God was fully aware that humanity would be cast from the Garden of Eden, yet he created Lucifer to do these things anyway. Being all-powerful, God could have foreseen the outcome of his creation and changed his plans, yet he didn't. So, God wants us to be tempted, and he wants some of us to fall for temptation. In fact, he knows who will and will not get into Heaven before those people are even born. So why worry about what we do, if we're destined to do it anyway?
Very true, Dan. I also skip the Jesus thing. I don't thing censorship against censorship is called censorship though. The Jesus thing is almost always full of blind statements.
Biltmore is right when he says "And please, if you'd like to argue about that don't bring religion into it". We know how off Christian values are in situations like this. Christianity is more about NOT being allowed to do things than it is to be human, free and do/say what you want.
Remember: this young man is taken care by a nun who doesn't seem to be against his will.
