Fun Facts About The End of the World.

Whether it's two billion years from now, when the Sun will no longer provide enough heat to support life on earth, or two hours from now in a nuclear holocaust, life on earth will inevitably come to an end. All religious traditions grapple [wiki] with this fact. Here's what they've come up with so far.

Christianity

Things Get Bad: At least according to the Book of Revelation, things will be very bad indeed. Weeping, gnashing of teeth, rending of garments, blood in the streets, etc. All of this will occur during "the Tribulation [wiki]."

And Then: the Second Coming of Christ, wherein Christ - to quote the Nicene Creed - "comes again in glory to judge the living and the dead."

Until: the Rapture [wiki], wherein all Christians (or at least good ones, depending on your particular denomination) are moved from earth directly to heaven with no dying or passing Go.

Islam

Things Get Bad: The Last Judgment in Islam is known as the Qiyamah [wiki]. At a time of God's choosing - no one knows when - Jesus (yes, that Jesus) will come down from heaven, end all wars, and kill ad-Dajjal [wiki] (Islam's equivalent to an Antichrist).

And Then: Each and every person who ever lived will be bodily resurrected and judged by God. Those found wanting will be sent to hell either temporarily or permanently; those who have been good and faithful go to heaven.

Until: No, that's it, actually. For the record, most Muslims do believe that some "People of the Book," that is, Christians and Jews, will also get to heaven.

Judaism

Things Get Bad: The end of days [wiki], or acharit hayamim, will be marked by conflict and tumult. When? Well, the Talmud states that the world will only last 6,000 years - so many Orthodox Jews believe the world as we've always known it will end in 2240 CE.

And Then: All of Israel's enemies will be defeated, the twice-destroyed Temple will be rebuilt [wiki], the dead will be resurrected, and the Jewish Messiah will become King of Israel.

Until: God intervenes in the Battle of Armageddon, saving the Jews, evil leaves the world, and earth becomes perfect. It's like Belinda Carlisle song: "They say in heaven love comes first/We'll make heaven a place on earth."

Buddhism

Things Get Bad: According to the Buddhist holy scripture, the Tipitaka, we'll know the end of the world is coming when morality disappears and people start  following the "10 Amoral Concepts."  Those concepts? Theft, violence, murder, lying, evil speaking, adultery, idle talk, covetousness, greed, and perverted lust. Um, uh-oh.

And Then: Once morality disappears, things will degenerate into misery.

Until: A Buddha named Maitreya (known in English as the "future Buddha"), the successor to the Buddha we all know and love, will arrive on earth and begin teaching the pure Dharma.

Hinduism

Things Get Bad: Most Hindus believe that we are currently living in Kali Yuga [wiki], the Iron Age, or age of darkness. Unfortunately for us, that means that evil is on the upswing. Eventually, Vishnu will become incarnate for the 10th and final time. By then, karma will have been completely turned on its head, with good people suffering  needlessly and the evil rising to ranks of power.

And Then: Shiva [wiki], "the Destroyer," will dissolve the evil and corrupt universe. And then, because all things are cyclical, the universe will simultaneously be reborn.

Until: We start getting evil again and get ourselves into another age of darkness. Most Hindus are careful not to put an exact time frame on eschatological matters. If you do, you can end up looking awfully foolish ...

Not the End of the World: People and Groups Who Falsely Predicted the End-time

Can't Keep Those Davidians Down

In 1942, a Seventh-day Adventist named Victor Houteff [wiki] broke away from the church with 11 followers and founded a "Davidian" branch of the church in Waco, Tex. Davidian. Branch. Waco. You see where this is going. But what a winding path the church took.

After Houteff died, his wife prophesied that the world would end on April 22, 1959. In point of fact, about the most interesting event of April 22, 1959, was the Yankees' Whitey Ford [wiki] striking out 15 Washington Senators en route to a 1-0 victory. Several hundred members of the Davidians left after the non-Apocalypse, but - remarkably - dozens remained faithful. In 1962, Benjamin Roden [wiki] became the group's leader and proclaimed himself successor to not only Ms. Houteff, but also to King David, noted star of the Hebrew Bible. Roden's wife became the new Davidian (get it?) when she took over the church. She quickly declared that in the Second Coming, Christ would assume the body of a woman.

You'd think by now the group would have theological whiplash, and yet it stayed together until 1981, when Vernon Howell, who would later rename himself David Koresh [wiki], showed up. By the time the ATF raided the compound in 1993, the Branch Davidians had 130 members. While their numbers dwindled after the massacre, Davidianism is still alive: A few people still claim to follow Koresh's teachings.

Go Ahead, Drink the Kool-Aid.

Jim Jones, cult leader of the People's Temple [wiki], portrayed as
the loving father of the "Rainbow Family"

By now, "Don't drink the Kool-Aid" is a well-known admonishment not to buy into collective wisdom. It derives from the 1978 Jonestown massacre, when 914 followers of Jim Jones [wiki], included 276 children, committed suicide. But here's the thing: No one at Jonestown drank Kool-Aid [wiki]. They drank cyanide-laced grape Flavor Aid, a Kool-Aid competitor - but the poor, innocent Kool-Aid man has been taking the fall ever since.

Prominent (False) Prophets

Henry Adams
Famous for: being the grandson and great-grandson of American presidents and writing the memoir The Education of Henry Adams, which Modern Library named the Best Nonfiction Book of the 20th century.

Prophecy: In his old age, with the confidence of a man who would not live to be proved wrong, Adams [wiki] declared the world as we know it would end in 1921.

What Happened Instead: Adams' world as he knew it ended in 1918.

Louis Farrakhan
Famous for: leading the Nation of Islam, organizing the Million Man March, believing in flying saucers.

Prophecy: Farrakhan [wiki] said that the Gulf War - the first one - would be "The war of Armageddon, which is the final war."

What Happened Instead: It turned out not to be the final war - not even between those two countries in that particular place.

Jacob Bernoulli
Famous for: being the mathematician behind the "Bernoulli numbers."

Prophecy: Bernoulli [wiki] predicted that a comet first seen in 1680 would soon return and slam into the Earth with Deep Impact-esque results.

What Happened Instead: The comet hasn't been seen since.

Ronald Reagan
Famous for: being the 40th President; 1951's Bedtime for Bonzo.

Prophecy: In 1971, Reagan [wiki] said, "For the first time ever, everything is in place for the battle of Armageddon and the Second Coming of Christ."

What Happened Instead: The world went on, and Reagan got elected president, which was a boon for conservatism and also for jelly beans, Reagan's favorite snack.

The Reagan quote is a little unfair. Time magazine reported at the time that Reagan said ""no one knows whether those prophecies mean that Armageddon is a thousand years away or day after tomorrow. So I have never seriously warned and said we must plan according to Armageddon."

It's not all the Christians who go in the Rapture. It's the 144,000, and no more, best Christians. All the hundreds of millions of others get to stay for an extended playdate with the Beast and Co.

The majority of Jim Jone's followers did not even drink Flavor Aid. They were murdered with injections of cyanide between the shoulder blades. Some were gun down and a very few drank the juice.

The government corroner for New Guenea said that so many people he examined during a 24 hour period were murdered by injection that he gave up examining the bodies after 200+.

The freedom of information acts released tons of documents regarding this incident.

Either the news media were led astray on this or intentionally mis-reported the facts.

Only 144,000 virgin men are going to Heaven during the rapture. It's all there in Revelations.

Revelations 14:3 And they sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders: and no man could learn that song but the hundred and forty and four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth.
14:4 These are they which were not defiled with women; for they are virgins. These are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth. These were redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb.

You shouldn't have even gone into talking about the rapture. That idea is non-Biblical. It's fiction. It can't be found anywhere in the Bible, unless you choose to mis-interpret a single verse in the New Testament. Plus, most Christians don't believe in it, if you want to go by numbers.

I'm a moderate Muslim who try to practise his religion to the teeth, but often procrastination takes hold during prayer time and I'm lured into lethargy :S But, hey thanks for exposing the truth behind Islam, its this moderate side of Islam that I'm attracted to. The fact that Islam lets you be so liberal (liberal as not in "Hippie Left centred Liberal") if you interpret its messages right is what actually gives me the momentum to carry on being religious even though I've been touched by the wind of atheism that comes with my Mechanical Engineering courses :)

"These are they which were not defiled with women; for they are virgins"

We got to read the whole chapter not just take one verse out of context. "For they're virgins.." means people who believe in the saving grace of God and thus showed their love to Him by keeping his commandments.

Revelations is a book with a lot of symbolism, but everything in it is true. The 144,000 simply means a great multitude that nobody can count (read Rev 7:4,9).

You forgot the best one! In Norse eschatology, the end of the world is known as "Ragnarok" (umlaut over the "o"). You can read about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ragnar%C3%B6k

Here's my summary:

Things get bad: First comes Fimbulwinter--three years of unending cold--then the stars vanish from the sky, earthquakes and tsunamis rip at the land, etc. etc.

And then: The fire giants, all condemned men and a slew of other mythical creatures do battle with the gods and all the fallen heroes of Valhalla. Everyone dies. The earth is burnt then flooded.

Until: Renewal is borne by the destruction. The sun is reborn, crops spontaneously sprout, and the descendants of the two surviving humans--Lif and Lifthrasir--will live in peace and harmony. The end.

So, let me see if i've got this right. The Firstfruits (all men) get in. The rest of us don't. Do I really want to spend eternity with a bunch of fruits, no women at all, and some major nutjob in charge? Hell with that lamb and his fruity friends. I'll take my chances with the beast.

Revelations 14:3 And they sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders: and no man could learn that song but the hundred and forty and four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth.

if you all want to know how this world always ends, for refuing to repent. it's already written in TheTorah, in TheLittle Book of Parashas Noach. and it ain't every going to happen any different, to this world's refusing to repent. because this is the way G-D says it forever is, in this world happy with their being in gan hell, instead of gan eden. so the resurrection of the dead is a forever on going process, even in this second comming of adam and chaooah just again. as we only have 7 days of G-D (6818 man years) to get this right. as TheG-D of TheTorah has given TheTorah over and over from between three to four million time. always with the same results in this world refusing to repent, here actualy while all are in TheTorah Happening. and how do i know this? well HaShem G-D always comes to speak to adam melech here as always in TheTorah. so the choice of gan hell rathe than gan eden is your didn't doing in live action Torah events. shalomcha vshalomech???,?...

As a devout Christian, I have to say (and forgive me if this is already in the comments) that the Rapture - which is where all believers in Christ are taken out of the world and up to Heaven - happens first. That is what sparks the Tribulation, a seven year period in which the Antichrist (the great deceiver) takes control of the world. The Antichrist has control and eventually the world will almost destroy itself, until Jesus comes back ("The Second Coming"), and takes control of the world. After this comes Judgement before God and all of the people who do not believe that Jesus Christ is the Messiah and Lord of the Earth will (read) GO TO HELL!!!

Jesus said (in John 4:16) "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." This means that if you do not believe that Jesus is the Son of God, you WILL NOT enter the Kingdom of God!!! (you go to Hell)

Sorry if this story doesn't coincide with your belief of how the world will end...I am not trying to appease anyone, I am simply telling you all the truth...

IF YOU DO NOT BELIEVE THIS, PLEASE GO READ THE BIBLE!!!!

With all that is going on in the world today, it seems that all of the events that are foretold in the Bible (specifically, the book of Revelation) are already being set in motion, and I personally believe that the Antichrist is already alive and on the Earth right now, but he will not be revealed or take power until AFTER the Rapture.

So in the event that Christians everywhere start mysteriously vanishing, REPENT AND TRUST IN JESUS!!!

The number 144,000 is symbolic in Christianity, being the result of 12,000 (12 being symbolic) multiplied by the number of tribes (12). The number 144,000 is representative of all who will be saved.

Only Jehovah's Witnesses and some fundamentalist Christians who lack knowledge of the rest of the bible interpret this number as literal.
Abusive comment hidden. (Show it anyway.)
Follow up:

I read above that some of you think that only 144,000 people go to Heaven. FALSE!!!

When the Rapture happens, ALL CHRISTIANS will be taken out of the world, out of harm. The 144,000 are ones that are martyrs for Christ during the Tribulation (12000 from each of the 12 tribes of Israel, not the Israel of today, but the Biblical Israel)

This does not mean that only 144,000 people will go to Heaven. Why would God only allow 144,000 out of trillions of souls go to Heaven?!?!

And anyway, that should not concern you. All you need to know is that the world is going to end, and if you do not have a personal relationship with Jesus, you are going to Hell.

Hell is a real place, but you do not have to believe in it to go there!!!

Please, if you have any questions, go talk to a Pastor or someone at your local Church (Baptist, Methodist, Lutheran, Pentecostal, etc.).

Whoa brother. Slow down. Stop being a sheep and think for yourself. The only thing your church wants from you is your money. Xians are living in the DARK AGES. It's really pretty scary to think that there a millions of people out there who still buy into that shit. Religion was created by simple men who couldn't explain things like thunder and lightning. Then smarter men turned it into a form of social control for the ignorant masses. It seems they did too good a job. WAKE UP and smell reality.

I completely disagree with some of the above comments regarding the rapture because it's fairly obvious what one needs to do:

You go out at night, eatin' cars
You eat Cadillacs, Lincolns too
Mercurys and Subarus
And you don't stop, you keep on eatin' cars
Abusive comment hidden. (Show it anyway.)
Ryan, I have to agree with you on all counts. Truly, those who fail to understand the objective reality of Hell - where Satan rules in torment - are doomed to end up there!

I strongly urge all you sinners, blasphemers, muslims, jews, and mormons to hop straight over to your local Pastor for a quick conversion and baptism. Your life and soul is on the line!

I wouldn't go so far, Ryan, as to allow Baptists, Methodists and Lutherans into the fold, though. Stick with the Pentecostals - you are sure to get taken up with them. Your odds are quite a bit worse with those others...

In fact, we might want to refine things just a bit, too. I would carefully suggest that it would really only be those that reject the evil of gay marriage, understand truthfully the fact of our co-existence with the dinosaurs, and believe with honest and whole heart in the Intelligent Design of our sacred bodies that should make it in the Rapture. If we open it up to ALL christians, we will let in a number who don't quite measure up, if you take my meaning.

So make sure you repent or you will all GO TO HELL!!!!

Wrong idea of Christianity given in the Christian account of the end of the world. Yes, the Second Coming of Christ does happen. But next is not the Rapture! Christ's Second Coming means that he has come to fulfill the kingdom of God on Earth! There is a new heaven and new earth -- it is all renewed. This is the end of history. There's no point of the Rapture then. It's not that the point of Christianity the one goes to heaven. It is to fulfill the Kingdom of God, which will happen with the Second Coming. And btw, ryan does not speak for all Christians. The majority do not believe in the Rapture. (And yes, i consider myself an orthodox Christian. I believe in the physical resurrection of Christ, virgin birth, Jesus as both God and man, etc.)
Abusive comment hidden. (Show it anyway.)
hey man, you have the Christian view wrong. by biblical theologians, the rapture happens first, then the bad things like the bowls trumpets and seals, and then the second coming of Christ.

Plus what Ronald Regan said doesn't make him a false prophet, he was stating a fact, that what ha happened in the past could set the stage. that wasn't even a prophecy, but more of an opinion. If he gave a date and time when it would happen, then that would be a false prophecy, but he didn't. so it wasn't.

There will be no such thing as the rapture. The 144,000 annointed ones is a literal figure of ones who will be with Christ in heaven. The world will not come to an end, its the system of things that will end. God's original purpose was for man to inhabit the earth to times indefinite and to live forever. Christ will not come back to earth as a human, he is already in presence setting up his Father's Kingdom and preparing for the war of Armageddon. The Bible mentions only one religion that is acceptable to God, all others will be non existance soon and the true faith will be revealed. Anything that is contrary to God's purpose is the Antichrist. There is no such thing as a firey burning hell, the word hell represents the common grave of mankind. People who are dead will not be resurrected to be judged. Death has aquitted them of their works on earth, (the wages of sin is death). Their judgement will be within the thousand year reign of Christ after he brings the human-race back to perfection and before he hands over the Kingdom to his heavenly Father. Very few people living today will survive the coming tribulation and the final battle at Armageddon and the wailing and nashing of teeth will be ones who think they understand the true meaning of what's interpeted in scriptures and realized their religion has deceived them. "No," I'm not Jehovah's Witness, yet Jehovah is the name of the true God.

Believe what you want in whatever faith that you want. But for a Christian nation, a Muslim nation,a Jewish nation, a Hindu nation to attack another country, attack civilians not of the 'right" ,(read:dominant) culture, to start wars etc(pick and choose any country, plenty of examples for every faith)... are not in keeping the the true message of religion and faith. Faith is faith, either you practice the true doctrine of the religion or you do not. To believe in the second coming or other mesianic saving and still practice state/church sanctioned murder/war/exploitation is to have absolutely no personal relationship with any God.

Ronald, would you mind telling me which religion the Bible apparently says is the only true one? Would that be Judaism or Christianity, because as far as I can tell that looks like two religions. Certainly you don't claim to have objective certainty (which may or may not exist) on such haughty and clearly unjustified beliefs.

P.S. Jehovah isn't a real word or a real name for the God of the Old Testament, YHWH. Please keep that in mind before you make such a bold declaration.

Great list! But for fairness I should point out that the "tribulation then rapture" theory is only held by evangelical Protestants. Most Christians (i.e. Catholics, orthodox, liberals, preterists, etc.) say there is no evidence in the Bible for the seven year tribulation theory, and it was all invented in the 1830s, but that's another story.

Article misleading, at least in regards to Christianity. For over 1800 years no one in Christendom had ever heard anything of a secret "rapture".

Many Christians believe, have historically believed, that the future holds bright things. There are likewise many Christians who hold that the "Great Tribulation" was Christ's prediction of what ultimately took place in AD. 70.

It is primarily 20th century American "evangelical" Christianity who takes the doom-and-gloom stance.

You cant interprete the Bible as an ordinary Book, it has too many cultural influence of the time.

So by saying "12" it doesnt means 11+1 people, it means "a complete group of people".

so 12 times 12 times 1000, means a really truly complete group of people.

I dont think you believe me.

but..

think again, if you read the authentic Bible as it was written, would you understand it?

could it be, that too many cultural influence of the time it was written has anything to do with it?

not sure if this will ever be read, but pretty certain the Hindu "end of the world" is incorrect. We're currently in an ascending "Dwapara". Although, the whole descending "Kali" is often understood to be where we're currently at. If I recall, the mistake occured because of a misinterpretation of how long the "ages" last. It would make more sense that we're in an ascending age, since we do seem to be developing a lot technologically, as well in other areas.

This current "dwapara" began around 1700 A.D. and will end around 4100, at which time the ascending "treta" age will start, and last another 3600 years (Kali = 1200, Dwarpara = 2400, Treta = 3600, Satya = 4800, each having a twin for the corresponding ascending/descending trend)

If you want more info, look it up. It seems to make a lot of sense

The YHWH or JHVH generally referred to as the Tetragrammaton (literally meaning "having four letters" is significant of the divine name Yehwah, or Yahweh used by the Nation of Israel during its covenant reign as God's chosen people.
After the Jews lost favour with God, first in 607 BCE, then permanently in 70 CE did the name Yahweh become a superstitious myth and was removed from the scriptures. (note: 607 BCE was the beginning point of the 7 times mentioned in Daniel 4: 14-16 referred to the "Appointed Times of the Nations")!
When the Bible was translated into english by William Tysdale in 1535 (during the Catholic inquisition) was the divine name restored as Jehovah. The King James Bible followed suit in 1611 copying the name four times in text.
The wailing and nashing of teeth scenario is only ironic to ones who are unaware of the coming tribulation which will expose organized religion on earth as Babylon the Great highlited in detail in Revelation.
The true religion is the same as Christ and his followers initiated during Jesus ministry on earth. God announced that during the last days he would restore the true faith out of the nations a people for his name. That name become apparent in 1935 CE. So look for a group of people who are no part of the world, have emence love for one another and follow Christ's example as well as they can considering their imperfect state. Oh yes, they are also well hated which is highlited clearly in Matthew 24: 9, and harmonizes with John 15: 20,...(persecution).

Civilization as modern as it is only reflects the temporary dellusion it has become in order to deceive people of God's righful purpose for mankind. His adversary is working in the vicinity of the earth to assure that outcome.
Man has dominated his independence from his creator for centuries and its unfortunate for the majority of the population alive on earth today, that just like the days of Noah, we are on the threshold of the conclusion of this system of things on this planet and as brought out in Matthew 7: 13-14, very few will survive the coming tribulation.

"very few will survive the coming tribulation."

Where is your evidence that something like this will even occur. Your savior thought it would happen in his lifetime, and I quote:

"Immediately after the tribulation of those days, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. And then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming upon the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And he will send out his angels with a trumpet blast, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other. "Learn a lesson from the fig tree. When its branch becomes tender and sprouts leaves, you know that summer is near. In the same way, when you see all these things, know that he is near, at the gates. Amen, I say to you, THIS GENERATION WILL NOT PASS AWAY UNTIL ALL THESE THINGS HAVE TAKEN PLACE . Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away. (Matthew 24:29-35 NAB)

It would seem to me that he was a little off on this one. Granted this does not "prove", if you will, my earlier points about bigotry and the like. That is not what this article is about, we're talking rapture here. I am more than capable of providing examples of those things if you would like. Now I will wait to hear from the apologists.

Taking in consideration that you have read the entire chapter of Matthew 24 from its beginning and perhaps you have studied secular history of the 20th century in chronological order, you could varify that the prophecies Christ spoke of have taken place. Verses 21-22 is evidence after the fact that a tribulation never seen by the masses of population on earth since its beginning until now is still before the fact, (yet future). Verse 22 gives clear indication that an event is very close to fulfillment in our time that could result in the destruction of the human-race, but it also shows that God will intervene in mankinds affairs on account of his chosen ones.
Many scholars who study interpetations of scriptures suggest God's chosen ones are the Nation of Israel, because the titlement of Israel is consistantly used throughout. Israel is symbolical referring to all peoples, all tongues and all nations, (Gentiles), just as a new heavens and a new earth is speaking literally about Governments on earth replaced by God's Kingdom and the population (earth) refers to a obedient people previlaged to fulfill God's original purpose.

Tray Jameson, your concept of a resurrected repentance where everyone is admited into heaven is a pleasant sound theory that anyone could endorse and enjoy, but it is so numerously contradicted by the scriptures that it is in reality, impossible. Heaven is the option for an elite few, whereas the earth was created solely for the home of obedient mankind, which was God's original plan for man before he fell into his own disparity, thereby delaying temporary, that purpose.

Im afraid that you failed to see what i was getting at...jesus (your lord, your christ) said to the people that were supposedly standing before him:

“There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.”Matthew 16:28

Some christians lie to you and claim jesus was referring to his modern day believers. The words “some standing HERE will not taste death” clearly refutes such nonsense. Obviously the people he was speaking to died, and curiously jesus STILL isn’t here to claim his kingdom.

Christ was talking to his apostles in Matthew 16: 28 and its obvious they could not live into our modern era, but he was referring to future present day true Christians who follow in his footsteps and adhere closely to the scriptures.
These will be the same survivors mentioned in Revelation 7: 13-14 who will come out of the great Tribulation.
Jesus Christ was present in his Kingdom when the "Appointed Times of the Nations" ended after 2520 years of the 7 Bible times that began in 607 BCE.
His claim of the Kingdom will be revealed to unbelievers and to many self confessed Christians (who claim to know God) during the Tribulation.

Allow me to retort -

Jesus says that all that he describes (his return, signs in the sun, moon, wars, stars, etc.) will occur within the lifetime of his listeners. He purposely defines their generation and NOT a future one. Considering that NONE of those signs took place during the resurrection and that he uses the term of “Heaven and earth shall pass away”, Clearly Jesus is prophesizing that nearly 2,000 years ago Armageddon SHOULD have occurred. Luke 21:25-33

"There will be signs in the sun, the moon, and the stars, and on earth nations will be in dismay, perplexed by the roaring of the sea and the waves. People will die of fright in anticipation of what is coming upon the world, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. And then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. But when these signs begin to happen, stand erect and raise your heads because your redemption is at hand." He taught them a lesson. "Consider the fig tree and all the other trees. When their buds burst open, you see for yourselves and know that summer is now near; in the same way, when you see these things happening, know that the kingdom of God is near. Amen, I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things have taken place. Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away. (Luke 21:25-33 NAB)

Matthew 10:23 also has Jesus telling his disciples that the second coming will occur before the disciples finish preaching in Israel: "When they persecute you in one town, flee to another. Amen, I say to you, you will not finish the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes." (Matthew 10:23 NAB)

Any way that you look at his, what he said was going to happen in a specific time DID NOT. All this taken from your good book in perfect context.
Abusive comment hidden. (Show it anyway.)
Your notion about my good book in perfect context is indeed not accurate, as I see no relation of Christ refering to his disciples about these signs becoming fulfilled during his time. Those disciples he mentioned are before the fact, or definitely future. As he relates in Matthew 28: 19-20

Go therefore and make disciples of people of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit, (20) teaching them to observe all the things I have commanded you. And, look, I am with you all the days until the conclusion of the system of things.

Its without doub't that the system of things in which he was addressing in the later verse was implicating a much later time period,... our time today.

During his ministry while still on earth there were many events that were hundreds of years away from fulfillment, such as the ending of the Appointed Times of the Nations, (Gentile Times) many of the prophecies he addressed in Matthew 24 were not to be fulfilled until the 20th century when man's technical acheivments could initialize God's purpose, so Jesus obviously was not talking about Armageddon occuring within his time.

There are many scriptures that have implemented fulfillment when the actuality is still future.

Isn't it interesting how people who claim to believe the literal truth of every word of the bible always seem to find some way to re-interpret the passages they find inconvenient.
Abusive comment hidden. (Show it anyway.)
Its also equally interesting to note that there are people who cannot handle the truth of accurate Bible interpetation because it doesn't always approve of their lifestyles, or their customs, therefore they dismiss certain scriptures as a mystery. The Bible does not contain a single verse that cannot be explained.
Thus the reason why there are so many various religions (when the Bible mentions only one) that have affiliation with doctrines of men, rather than keeping accurately the authentic word of God. Religions made God adaptable to man, whereas the holy scriptures related the requirements for man by God.
With the help of modern technology the authenticity of the scriptures have been accurately restored.

Also the last part about Hinduism, Shiva will destroy the world - not destroy all life, it's implied that humans will in effect destroy each other or rather destroy the resources they use and end up killing everyone regardless. The world will shrivel up (metaphorically) and all life will die. It then says that a new planet will be created (or an already existing planet) will give rise to life, and repeat the process.

In fact, we could say it mirrors what happened 2500 years ago when the Buddha walked the earth spreading his teachings and elevating the moral, physical (health) and spiritual state of people around the world, which isn't as hard to believe as the son of god magically creating a walkway through the ocean, and unleashing plagues of locusts etc.

Your comment reply RJ is exclusive enough to relate that you possibly would not be a survivor in the coming tribulation and that's quite alright, regardless what your opinions are towards scriptural content, you will no doub't be a part of this fast approaching prophecy either way.
Having a favourable humbleness such as Jose would be a wise decision on your part, but as the Bible brings out that we are all responsble for our own actions, positive or negative.
Because these final days are in direct comparison to Noah's day before the deludge destroyed the earth, I could assume by reading about the very few survivors during that tribulation, that they possibly had the same attitude towards Noah's warning such as you have today.
They might have even spoke similiar words just like you have RJ, but when the ark door was seal by God and the rains came, I could also assume when critical times became apparent, the attitudes of the ridiculars might have changed,...but to them it was too late, but you RJ,... there is still time.
You can see for yourself that events in this world are unfolding rapidly and I'm sure no-one would think any less of you if you walked a little wiser and paid a little more attention to the signs.

I could meerly suggest for you where to go to seek help, but God does not work through instant gradification, as he reads the hearts of all who seek him.
Because a relationship with God is a personal one, your prayers to him must also be personal. To do so, just shut your door to your room, leave all your anixeties behind and ask your heavenly Father to give you guidance towards the faith he recognizes on this earth today. He may not respond instantly, but then he also knows the urgency of our times, so if someone comes to your door and wishes to share information about his Kingdom, give them a listen, the message may be exactly what you want to hear.

When it comes to religious indifferences and the opinions of everyone being 100% right, or wrong, I agree CJ, there is a fight to be had for supremacy, but if one is to use discernment to understand the accurate knowledge of scriptures, then it is God and his word that is 100% correct.
It was commendable that your cousin saw the discrepancies of the Catholic Church, but its unfortunate that Paganism does not disclose accurate truth either, as the mentioning of the woman in Bible text (Dead Sea schrolls) was not a literal female person, rather a oneness of spirituality, (as an illustration of Jesus Christ and the surviving congregation) in comparison to a married couple.

Disproving what you have written in your comment is not necessary. If you follow the counseling in Proverbs 3: 5-6; Trust in Jehovah with all your heart and do not lean upon your own understanding. (6) In all your ways take notice of him, and he himself will make your paths straight.

Adhering to your beliefs and opinions just for sake of argument is futile, but having a conscientious heart and an open mind towards truth will set you free of speculative objectives.
All organized religions, not just Christianity, are man made, each one basing man made doctrines that are infiltrated into the holy scriptures and very easy to reveal.

You are correct about women being the source of life here on earth because of a woman's child-bearing qualities and all are deserving of deep respect and praise, but there would be no life without God who created everything for a purpose.

It is not the world that will end, its the system of things that is suppressing all mankind that will end. To fight over an inevitable event would not be practical as it is God's word who discloses that fact, not mine!

666 -- Ronald Wilson Reagan, 6 letters each name as Dave Mustain of Megadeth pointed out in the 80's

The Mighty Whore that sitteth upon the many waters
which are many tongues and nations -- the United States
with its many ethnicities and its soulless materialism
This also goes along with the Great Satan rhetoric from other Middle Eastern sources. (Cheer up! All Americans go to Hell!)

Bush is the direct heir of Reagan via his father. Will
he ignite World War III in the name of inducing the rapture?

Gog and Magog -- there is a town near Sherbrooke, Quebec called Magog.

Wormwood and gall -- sounds to me like Chernobyl.

The Piscean Age ends with the extinction of humanity through endless population growth according to astrology. This is a heterosexual problem since they seem to think they have a Divine Right to keep having children. Also when men love each other, it is not love, but homosexuality with the emphasis on sex. Jesus
said, "A new commandment I give unto thee, that ye love
one another," and we know he was talking to men, not women, when he said it.

I would put Walt Whitman's Song of Myself, sections 48-52 up against the Sermon on the Mount any day for inspirational reading, but people act like the Bible is the only book ever written.

John of Patmos experienced the Revelation about 1500 years before Columbus, so his vision is spotty and dim, but in some places it seems to make some sense.

The 6 letter configuration is a fine example short of the perfect number of 7, but I assume there was not enough room on this page to disclose any more than tens of millions of names with the exact count.
The numbers 666 are significant for reference as the number of man (mark of the beast) only. They carry absolutely no value to events and incidents in relation to Biblical prophecies. Hense, man and his over-emphasized imagination.

Every single human being who ever walked the earth throughout history who died went to hell. The Hebrew word (Sheols) and Greek word (Hades) are the interpeted words used for hell, and when translated back to modern day english they both mean grave. Jesus Christ himself spend 3 days in hell. You should never get the word "Gehenna" confused with hell. It was a firey dump outside the city of Jerusalem.

The rapture is thought to be the meaning of all Christians in 1 Thessalonians 4: 17, but closely examining scriptures that coincide with it shows the Bible is referring to the 144,000 only.

Yes, there is a town in Quebec with that name. The Gog of Magog is a Biblical reference that nost of us alive on earth today will never experience. Found in appearance in Revelation 20: 8 it emphasizes the abyssed Satan and his followers being released during the closing of the thousand year reign of Christ Jesus after the battle of Armageddon.

Wormwood is a woody plant with a strong bitter aromatic odor found in Palestine and it is represented in scriptural expressions concerning injustices and unrighteousness.

Because the Bible was mostly written while the Nation of Israel was under the covenant reign as God's chosen people, astrology was not practised by the Israelites, therefore is irrelevant to Biblical prophecies.

When Jesus was addressing new commandments to love one another, he was referring to all Gentiles, both female and males. He would never emphasize homosexuality when his heavenly Father clearly points out that it is obscene, therefore not approved by divine standards. Its ironic how homosexuals will use that verse to support their lifestyles, thereby clergy and church-goers who tolerate gays are bringing ostracism upon God's holy name.

Since the Sermon on the Mount occured hundreds of years prior and most of those prediction came true within the 20th century, I guess inspiration expressions are definitely a matter of choice. The Bible is the only book when interpeted correctly, that informs man of his requirements to his creator.

John, the last surviving apostle of Christ in exile on the island of Patmos did not (and would not) experience the Revelation, rather he was given signs by God's angel in a vision. The visions cor-ordinate the number 7 to represent completeness (last Bible book) and to show God's people the things that must shortly take place.

Coming out of Babylon is a future prophecy, but most people do not understand the modern implications of it according to the chapter of Revelation. It refers to Babylon the Great (harlot) which represents all false religions (Christendom) on the earth and of its destruction by the the Scarlet Coloured Wild Beast that stems from the original Wild Beast. The scarlet beast is recognized as the United Nations organization on earth formed within the boundaries of the Wild Beast,...the United States of America.

Once the Tribulation begins, there will be no escape for anyone, but Mexico will at least be warmer than most climates.

I'm pleased Mr Gevalt that you found the posts on here humorous, because a disposition of happiness is much more appropriate than any other alternative.
Your daddy, no doub't a very wise man, was teaching you to be a responsble citizen and tending to your own knitting is an older expression used to politely say, "mind your own business!"
But religion, a fascinating part of life, was never mean't to become the numerous spirituality organizations according to the teachings of Christ and his followers. His example was priority of all others.

But because man has inherited sin and imperfection, he does have a tendency to exaggerate the word of God in order to satisfy his own selfishness. When he becomes so disoriented in his quest for the spiritual side, its no wonder he is confused about what his requirements are and to what consequences that follows when God's righteousness standards are ignored.

The days of Noah are a prime example of our days today. Noah was giving warning to the people of the earth at that time about a pending deluge which was a divine judgement because of the wickedness of man. I'm not sure if the ridiculers of Noah used those same expressions of "good googly go, or nanny nanny booboo" during his time, but it was obvious very few people took him serious enough to warrant building something as stupid as an ark. Non the less, Noah did warn the people of the coming rains and I can safely assume those people would have traded their sarcastic remarks for a room in the ark, rather than threading water all day.

Today is quite similiar, but it is yet future and there are people emphasizing warnings just as Noah did during his time.
I'm sure Mr Gevalt, your father would never hesitate to warn you if your immediate life was in danger from some unforseeable occurence. Giving warnings of pending tribulation is commendable on the person(s) addressing it, but just as the people who were warned of the flood, it depends entirely on how you react to it.
I'm sure your remarks on the coming day of Jehovah probably won't match the cute ones you use today and I'm equally sure because of your lack of insight on scriptural matters that you would possibly consider your fate as a natural phenomenon.

Thanks for the warning, Mr Fleming...I'll keep it under advisement.

And, just because I don't spout off all I might or might not know about scriptures, doesn't mean I'm not well-versed in them. I prefer to a) keep it to myself and b) not tell others what to do or believe (i.e. "tend to my own knittin'").

One other thing, it's Ms Gevalt, thank you very kindly.

My sincere apology for the gender mixup Ms Gevalt, but in the nature of your reply it actually sounded quite mistakeably male agressiveness.
As for the warning Ms Gevalt, it does not belong to me to harbour it personally, it happens to coincide with God's purpose. If it was left up to me I would only address good fortunes to everyone who has a sincere love for their fellow humans.

I'm also not addressing your knowledge of the scriptures and if you are well versed in them you would be aware that God does not require you to keep them to yourself, nor stay silent about the pending tribulation that will trigger the battle of Armageddon.
Of all the religious groups in the world very few are adhering to God's requirements and there is only one that is actually giving his warning on a personal level, yet they are the most hated and persecuted organization on earth. And no, I am not a member of their congregations.

The Bible clearly gives reference that "faith without works is dead" and staying silent about pending tribulations is the same as being blood guilty towards any victim. Whether the person heeds the warning, or ignores it, if you have announced it, you have followed Christ's example when he dusted his sandals from the doorsteps of unresponsive ones and carried on to the next door.

Here again Ms Gevalt, I apologize for the mistake of gender and appreciate your reply comments.

If I am guilty of anything, it is being exactly what your omnipotent and omniscient deity made me into. If he/she/it has a problem with that then he/she/it can go to the same hell he/she/it wants to send me to.

How can you say that your deity is merciful or even fair if he/she/it makes us inclined to be things that he/she/it disapproves of?

We are what we are because of the choice made in the garden of Eden by our ancestors. Their disobediance (sin) separated them (and us) from God. However He (God) loves you (and me) so much that He has made a way for us to be reconciled to Him. Jesus said: I am The way, The Truth, and, The Life...No one comes to The Father except through Me. Regardless of what caused our "fallen state" we are all guilty of sin and worthy of death, but, Jesus died in your (and my) place. It is now our choice to accept (or deny) the free gift of Eternal life that He offers everyone.

Nostra D, your comment # 96 shows you are a considerate and caring person and sincerely in your heart you would welcome change on earth as opposed to its current state and its a normal impulse of humans to long for peace and harmony among the different cultures that make up the human family.
I can reassure you, that is also God's promise to correct matters in his own due time. The problem with this correction which will take place very soon, is its not going be on man's terms.
Unfortunately, God will remove the elements that are preventing peace on earth and uphold the dreams of many who are fed-up with man and his suppressive attitude.
Two of those main elements are "governments and religion." In order to fulfill that promise in accordance to his purpose, all supporters of governments and all members of religions opposed or ignorant of his purpose will also be removed.
It is clearly brought out in Revelation 18: 4 God, through his angel gives a stern warning to get out of those religions. The entire chapter 18 deals exclusively with Babylon the Great, the name given to all religions that are false in content and opposed to God's strict standards.
Also its apparent that many individuals alive on this earth today do not wish to give up their selfish intentions and they have no will to change their personality which is needed in order for peace to become a reality. Remember, God reads hearts and treacherous hearts is what is deceiving mankind these days.
Religion has deceived many by introducing man-made doctrines that are not part of the holy scriptures. One in particular that you addressed in your comment was pertaining to the human soul.
Man was created a living soul, he does not possess one and the results of death on a soul is clearly evident in Ezekiel 18: 4 and again in Ezekiel 18: 20 that the soul that is sinning, it itself will die.
It is commendable to have knowledge concerning God's word, but its equally important to have accurate knowledge of truth of correct interpetation.
Its not a difficult effort, if you are willing to ask God in a personal prayer to direct your attention to the one and only faith mentioned in the Bible. Ephesians 4: 4-6
You already have a good heart condition, you just need to sincerely search for him to guide your steps.

What REALLY happens:

If nothing untoward HITS planet earth first, the sun will continue through it's life span and, upon becoming a red giant, ingulf most of the inner planets (including earth) in the process.

I predict this will happen in about 5 billion years.......

The End.

The way we see things is not necessarily the way it is, its just the way we see them...For around 6,000 years now the prophecys of the Bible have been fulfilled with 100% accuracy...And that IS the way it is.
