Flashback From the 80s: Mystery House.

I think this is the very first computer game I've ever played. Syd Lexia brings us back with Mystery House, a 1980 game from On-Line Systems (which later became Sierra On-Line) for the Apple II computer: Link

This game was designed by Roberta Williams, the same woman who would go on to design the Kings Quest Games. It was also the very first computer game to feature graphics! Before this, it was all text-based.

That's right; the first computer game to have graphics was designed by a woman!

I love that the article breaks down what made those text-based games so mind-numbing as well. On the positive side, they taught me to type and spell when I was a wee child. On the downside, the mental breakdown I experienced trying to figure out what to do in Space Quest II when you're in the dark underground tunnel still gives me chills.

P.S. Come to think of it, I also experimented with swearing for the first time too.
