Hiroshi Sugimoto's Henry VIII Photos.

Neatorama reader Robert Boyd wrote:

One more twist on the subject of painters working from photos and photographers recreating paintings. Hiroshi Sugimoto has taken photos of Henry VIII and his court. Actually, Sugimoto took pictures of waxworks at Madame Tussauds based on portraits by Hans Holbein the Younger. His trick is painstaking attention to period lighting techniques so his photos look like they were taken in the 16th Century.

Link - Thanks Robert!

So, let's recap: photos to art, then art to photos, then art to wax figures to photos (Link above). Got that?

Did they not have colour film in the 16th century?
I suppose it would have looked less "artistic".
Seems to me the people doing the waxworks should get most of the credit. He just copied the lighting and shadow effects when taking the picture.
