Slowing Down the Chipmunks Reveal Actors' Voices.

Do you remember Alvin and the Chipmunks? Then you probably know that a recording can be speeded up to make it sound squeaky like Alvin, Simon, Theodore.

But, do you know that if you slow down a Chipmunk recording, you can hear what the actual actors sound like?

Yep, that's right. Listen (MP3) for yourself : http://centripetalnotion.com/2006/07/07/11:16:35/ - via Your Daily Awesome, Thanks Viper Fantastic!

Another interesting use of this technique is in Warner Bros cartoons that have Mel Blanc as the voice, eg Daffy Duck etc. The speed isn't quite as different as the chipmunks but still quite noticable. The weird thing is, the new performer who does the more recent voices isn't sped up at all so doesn't sound quite right. Go figure.

Actors? It should just be actor...Ross Bagdasarian (aka David Seville) did the voices for Alvin, Simon and Theodore using variable speeds. When he died, his son took over the job of the voices. This is nothing new and has been revealed some time ago.
