Then tell the kids not to touch the snake while you wait for animal control? It just seems like death of the snake is such an over the top reaction. Pestering it put the family in more danger. Especially since the decapitated head can still move after death. Animal control is not going to leave you hanging around with a deadly snake in your house, wait for the professionals.
"Ok, snake. Stay! Hello, animal control?"
