Grandma's Badass "Do Not Resuscitate" Tattoo

81-year-old Joy Tomkins has got what probably is the most badass tattoo a person can get:

After her husband suffered a slow and painful death, she made the decision to let doctors know that she doesn't want to suffer the same fate when her time comes. Although she doesn't suffer from any terminal illness, the grandmother-of-six visited a tattoo parlour earlier this year and spent £5 on the two tattoos, which can be seen below.

Aw, terribly sorry to hear that, Shannon. I hope that things will work out - hang in there! I think you're right about the legality of the tattoo - it's best to file a DNR with the hospital.

Color me dumb, but what does "P.T.O." mean? (If you click the link, it shows P.T.O. and an arrow tattooed on her right shoulderblade.) I'm assuming she doesn't mean Paid Time Off.

I have an incurable and untreatable (and extremely painful) genetic condition that's going to do me in soon, and I've considered such a tattoo, especially because my condition involves apnea problems so I could easily be left with brain severe damage if something goes wrong. The problem is, these sorts of tattoos are generally not legal. The doctors have no way of knowing if you, for example, changed your mind since you got the tattoo. Odds are extremely high, effectively certain, that they'll simply ignore it.
