Ok, maybe it's not able to solve the cube, but I'm just impressed that it is willing to try. I wonder if octopus and mantis shrimp would have fun playing with Rubik's cubes together.

If this is true and the mantis shrimp figured the cube out, then it might be because it has the most vibrant color perception in the known animal kingdom. In addition to being meticulous workers, mantis shrimp can see ultraviolet and infrared. I'd wager there is a correlation between the cube and their sight gift.
Is that a full-sized Cube? Holy shit! I had no idea the mantis shrimp was that large! I thought they were a couple inches long, but that would be lobster-sized unless that's a tiny cube. Their bullet-claws are even more dangerous than I realized.
