Once when I was backbacking I had a peanut butter jar in my closed bag, and a squirrel had no problem getting into the jar, then it wasn't so cute, now it is :)

Or to look at it another way, when you run out of peanut butter, just set the jar outside, wait till Squirrel goes in, then screw the cap on and--voila!--
