This cardboard sculpture by Koukichi Sugihara of the Meiji Institute for Advanced Study of Mathematical Sciences in Japan won the first prize at the 2010 Illusion of the Year competition. This one is all the more remarkable in that it is a solid object when most entries were computer-generated. I think the timing was unfortunate.. I saw the headline above, "Yummy Bacon Mints", and then my mind was thinking candy when I glanced down at the photo.

She's doing fine, still in the hospital but gaining lots of weight and apparently quite healthy. I give as much credit to her caring medical staff as I do to her loving, devoted parents.

It's just amazing to think that, only a few years earlier, her chances of even surviving--much less thriving--would have been astronomical.

my daughter was only 11 ounces at birth and had {nec} only a handful of babies survive the both and my daughter is now 2 years old and only 15 pounds so i kinda know what you went through and it is very tough if youd like to email me that would be great and we could talk a bit about my daughter and your baby.

amazing...have you all seen the fetus grabbing the surgeon's hand during spina bifida surgery (Vandy)...chawn....awesome...glad she's doing well I'm a NICU nurse in ATL...wouldn't do anything else...they are little troopers.

that baby is SO small! how cute! she is a lil trooper. o.k. i know this is off subject, but you should watch these two shows: babies special delivery because if you think this baby is in a bad situation....its just a cool show! and jon and kate plus 8 because their sextuplets and twins are flippin cute!!!!

noy trying to be rude, but SOMEBODY REPLY TO ME!!!! it's mainly the only reason i wrote up because i've always thought it would be cool for people to comment on what i wrote. by the way, i read about that baby in a magazine and she went home when she was like 4 monthes old or something. i'll look it up and post it.....eventually

i know what you are going thru my son was 1lb 1oz at birth he is now 3years old and weighs 27lbs
