Think you're hot stuff when you drink Cristal? That ain't nothing according to this list of the most expensive champagne of 2006 by Forbes:
Two of the champagnes we feature--the Krug Clos du Mesnil and the Bollinger Blanc de Noir--are unique because they come from specific vineyards, and the quantities available are finite and very limited. Then, because they are widely acknowledged among connoisseurs as the very best, they attract the sort of mad money (think upward of $750) where an extra $100 here or there is going to make no difference to sales whatsoever.
OK, here are the top five:
1. Krug, Clos du Mesnil 1995 (US$750)
2. Bollinger Blanc de Noirs Vieilles Vignes Françaises 1998 (US$575)
3. Dom Pérignon Rosé 1996 (US$400)
4. Salon Le Mesnil 1996 (US$300)
5. Krug 1995 (US$200)
