It's usually a stick-on vinyl advert gimmick, not a paint job. like the wraps they put on buses.

Prolly for real: the local VW dealership has a shuttle van that has a Beetle on one side and a Jetta on the other. The effect is more striking when parked than when moving.

Whatever it is, it's not "original", I've seen a picture of a similar paint job on a yellow van, in my mailbox like 3 years ago. I thought it was so cool, I signed up for airbrush courses :)
